Times Leader: No one to corroborate Times-Tribune report of "kill him" at Palin rally

Fight! The Times-Tribune of Scranton reported that someone yelled "kill him" at the Sarah Palin rally in Scranton on Tuesday. The threat was national news, and was fodder for Keith Olbermann's show that night.

Andrew Seder and the Times Leader hit back hard, all but calling the story a fabrication. The story quotes the local Secret Service boss as being "baffled" by the Times-Tribune story. Reporter Dave Singleton and Metro Editor Jeff Sonderman are both namechecked. The Times-Tribune also has a story about the Secret Service investigation of the threat, but omits the agency's skepticism. Discuss.

Yeah, "HEEE's BAAACK." We can defame, libel and trash one another again.

Thank God you are back! The other site has turned into nothing but bitch slapping mindlessness....

Didn't anyone from the T-T bother to ask anyone in the crowd what they heard?

What a shock Mr. banana himself believes his reporter
Larry has never been wrong about a reporter before, hmm....

"Times-Tribune Managing Editor Lawrence K. Beaupre said the newspaper stands by its story. He said Mr. Singleton, who has been a wire service and newspaper reporter for 30 years, was uniquely placed. “He heard what he heard. He reported what he heard.”

Wow. Even if you don't know the reporter, do you really think anyone at a NEPA newspaper would just make sh1t up? Get stuff wrong? Maybe. But just pretend something happened, putting their job and reputation at risk for no reason?

10:49... you're really not that naive are you?
Did you read the TT defense/follow up, it wasn't very convincing.

Better known reporters, at much bigger papers have made mistakes, or worse yet, made things up, why do you think it couldn't happen here?

Fact: Andrew Seder was fired by the Scranton Times

Fact: Read Seder's previous work and compare it to Singleton's

Fact: Unless you're retarded beyond repair, you know Singleton is a stand up guy.

Conclusion: Read Seder's "reporter's notebook" from the event in question. Then read the one filed by the Scranton Times. Then ask yourself who was paying attention.

Goodnight Andrew. From this point on you should try to get Rush to spell your name right, and quit trying to prove you're something you're not. Since I didn't send you a press release spelling that out for you; reporter is what you are not.

Challenge to anyone here: Pull the clips from either reporter over any time span on any subject and tell me who the real deal is. If you can find a way to compare Seder to Singleton you need medical help. We're pretty much done here.

Don't know either reporter, but the back is the TT reporter has no proof.
That puts him in a tough spot.

Looking at it objectively, don't know either party, it is odd that none of thousands of others at the rally have come forward to say they heard the same thing....

try be objective, I assume your a reporter, or at least play one in NEPA

It's not a battle between two reporters. Secret Service said accusation is unfounded.

Do you really think the SS gives a shit about a reporter from either the TL or TT?

Sounds like you have a hard time admitting your friend might have made a mistake...

"Singleton was the only one who reported hearing the death threat, though he could not give a description of the man he claimed made the remark."

This line says it all. If it's true. He should no longer be a reporter.

Hey 7:21: Um, I'm pretty sure Andrew Seder was not fired by The Scranton Times. No, make that I'm 100 % certain. I worked there at the time and watched him hand his two-week notice to Chris Imperial. And, please note, that was the biggest smile I had seen on someone's face at the TT in a long time. Fact: Seder quit, wasn't fired. Another seemingly false report from the TT. Anyone want to verify my report should ask Imperiale, Borys, Bill Nish in HR or anyone else at that paper who was there at the time and would be honest.

Secret Service NEVER said it was "unfounded."
Should anyone be surprised that people at a McCain/Palin rally woudln't want to come forward to say something damaging about their candidate?
Secret Service said it couldn't find anyone else who heard it.
(I happen to know the TT had several calls from rally participants who DID hear "Kill Him." But none wanted to go on the record or talk to the SS.
The TL saying the SS called it "unfounded" is a big fat LIE.
(Where's the outrage?)

After taking it on the chin for letting McCain enthusiasts get away with such comments, the SS have to show due diligence. That's the source of their "comment, what comment?" reaction.
Better to shoot the messenger, CYA, and go back to hunting down bogus 20s.

Any chance Ed Christine was in that crowd?

SS NEVER said unfounded. That's like an investigator saying "no one else saw the tresspasser on your property, so you made it up, it never happened."

The TL lied using the word "unfounded," and that's worse than anything TS did by reporting something uttered and heard. (They downplayed it, frankly, for otherwise glowing Palin coverage.)
